Hello Race Fans! Welcome to Microfinance Monday!
What do automobiles, the Indy 500, and Microfinance have in common?
Check out my video about Donovan to learn more
I love racing. I love big internal combustion engines, performance cars, speed, and the Indy 500. My dad, Lynn Hartman, started taking me to the Indy 500 when I was just ten years old. This year, I celebrate my 54th Indy 500. Now, I have passed this tradition on to my children and grandchildren. And this year my wife Kathy and I will take our entire family to the indy 500. It will be the first year that all of our four grandchildren have attended the race. What a blessing to be able to do this!
Speaking of automobiles, I want to introduce you to a young man named Donovan. Donovan is a great young Christian man with a lovely wife, Latanya and two beautiful girls, ages 5 and 16. Donovan dreams of starting an automobile import business in Belmopan Belize. There is a shortage of decent used cars in Belize, and many can’t afford new cars. Donovan will import distressed used cars from Texas and Florida, fix them up, and sell them for a nice profit. Donovan has written a comprehensive business plan, attended our two-day business training summit, and is ready to go. He has even imported a few cars for a profit as proof of concept. We will fund Donovan with a microfinance business loan.
Donovan’s vision is to employ disadvantaged young men in his business and to become a mentor to them. He will use some of his profits to send his daughters to school, providing them with hope and a future.
